Abstract

Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of triethanolamine cream for the treament of chronic skin ulcer. Methods Thirty-eight patients with chronic skin ulcer were classified into the test group and control group. The control group was routinely treated with debridement and dressing, while the test group was topically treated with triethanolamine cream besides debredement and dressing. Results After 8 weeks of treatment, the lesions healed in 18 (85.71%) patients in the test group and 8 (47.06%) patients in the control group, markedly improved in 2 (9.52%) patients in the test group and 2 (11.76%) patients in the control group, improved in 1 (4.76%) patient in the test group and 5 (29.41%) patients in the control group. The total response rate was significantly different between the test group and control group (95.24% vs.58.82%,x2 =6.497,P < 0.05).Both the time required for granulation tissue to generate and that for skin ulcer to heal were shorter in the test group than in the control group (both P < 0.01).Conclusion Triethanolamine cream is a safe, effective, and well-tolerated treatment option for chronic skin ulcer.
