Abstract

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of two triazoles, triadimefon and uniconazole, compared to benzylaminopurine (BAP) for in vitro microtuber production in three leading Indian cultivars, Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Badshah and Kufri Sindhuri. Both triazoles were effective in microtuber production, and at the lowest concentration tested (0.01 mg 1−1) uniconazole was more effective in producing higher numbers and average weight of microtubers than 10 mg 1−1 of BAP, although the best results were obtained with 0.5 mg 1−1 of uniconazole. This is the first report of triazole-induced stimulation of in vitro microtuber production.
