Abstract

Combined results of approximately two dozen studies of the efficacy of trazodone, conducted in the United States and Europe, indicate that trazodone is superior to placebo in alleviating depression. Moreover, trazodone is at least as effective as standard tricyclic antidepressants. Possible biases introduced by combining results obtained with different methodologies are minimized by including, with one exception, only double-blind, random assignment, controlled studies.
