Abstract

Objective To evaluate the influence of saxagliptin on blood glucose and inflammatory markers in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods One hundred and eighty elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated in the Second People’s Hospital of Jiaozhou from May 2016 to October 2017 were selected. According to the random number table method, enrolled patients were divided into treatment group (90 cases) and control group (90 cases). All patients were given health education, proper exercise and diet control. Patients in control group orally took repaglinide tablets and patients in treatment group administrated saxagliptin tablets orally. Before and after treatment, the body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), postprandial 2 h blood glucose (2 h PG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), serum creatinine (Scr), triglyceride (TG), and highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), whole blood cell count, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total cholesterol (TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the levels of HbA1c, 2 h PG and FPG in control group were decreased significantly (P all<0.05), while HbA1c, 2 h PG, FPG, homocysteine, NLR and C-reactive protein in treatment group were significantly decreased (P all<0.05). After treatment, the levels of 2 h PG, FPG and NLR in treatment group were significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that FPG was positively correlated with NLR, neutrophils, leukocyte, HbA1c and 2 h PG (P<0.05), and it was negatively correlated with lymphocyte level (P<0.05). Conclusions Saxagliptin for the elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus can improve the microinflammatory state, delay the failure of islet β cell, improve the function of β cells, decelerate the process of disease, and control the blood sugar quickly and effectively.
