Abstract

ABSTRACT Pit and fissure sealants (PFSs) are the optimal treatment options to prevent occlusal caries. The aim of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the effect of ozone pretreatment on dental PFS retention when applied before or after acid etching. The retention of the PFSs was tested by microtensile bond strength test, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, and microleakage evaluation. The present study found that sealant application with ozone pretreatment at a concentration of 60–80 µg/mL for 40 seconds, especially when used after acid etching, resulted in significantly less microleakage formation and better sealant penetration than traditional sealant application; however, it had no significant effect on bond strength.
