Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the rainy (kharif) season of the year 2015 at the experimental site of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee to evaluate different soil nutrient management sources on growth, yield and economics of rice (Oryza sativa). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 8 treatments and 3 replications comprising different combinations of inorganic fertilizers and organic manures viz., T1-control, T2-recommended dose of chemical fertilizers (RDCF) @ 120:60:60, T3-FYM @ 20 t ha-1, T,-vermicompost (VC) @ 5 t ha-1, T5-50% FYM + 50% RDCF, T6-50% VC + 50% RDCF, T7-50?3 VC + 50% FYM and T8-25%VC + 25% FYM + 50% RDCF. Rice growth and development were observed better in the inorganic treated plot than the organic and INM treated plots. The response of FYM was observed better than vermicompost in respect of rice yield and yield attributes. The results suggested that complete organic incorporation may reduce rice yield, however, intigrated nutrient managment (INM) may be a better choice to sustain rice yield in the long term.
