Abstract

In the last few decades, the continuous studies and growth in Natural Fibre Reinforced Composites (NFRCs) have enormously contributed to the impacts on their utilization in the ongoing research and innovation arena. The rapid continuous growth and studies have established the remarkable properties of these natural fibre composites over synthetic fibre composites and are meaningly helpful from environmental perspectives. The innate properties of such NFRCs possess biodegradability, renewable resources, good abundance, and improved performance compared to synthetic fibres, making them potentially useful in various applications. For enhanced capabilities of NFRCs, multiple modifications have been made in natural fibres which are still get to be investigated in a deeper manner. The paramount objective of this review work is to illuminate the readers about various aspects and recent developments in the application-based natural fibres reinforced composites that took place in recent years. The current review article briefly summarizes and focuses on industrial-based product development using natural fibres, and their inherent thermo-mechanical properties. The present work reviews the thermal properties and mechanical properties such as mechanical strength, flexural moduli, elastic strength, toughness, hardness, stiffness, biodegradability nature, water absorption characteristics, etc., and suggests the associated challenges and future trends for further research.
