Abstract

Seven Belgian dermatology clinics participated in a multicenter study aimed at evaluating the efficacy of mupirocin ointment in the treatment of primary and secondary skin infections. 116 patients were enrolled in the study. Clinical assessment was possible in 110 patients, bacteriological assessment in 106. Clinical success rates were 93.3 and 90.8% for primary and secondary infections, respectively. Correspondingly, bacteriological eradication or complete healing was achieved in 97.7 and 87.1%, respectively. Side effects were mild and limited to 1 case of burning sensation and 1 case of stinging.
