Abstract

Present studies were conducted to evaluate the insecticidal activity of Moringa oleifera (Lam.) against Spodoptera litura (Fabricius). Significantly higher mortality in chloroform, ethyl acetate and hexane extracts of M. oleifera was observed. Hexane extract possessed higher activity than the other extracts with sub lethal value of 199 ppm. Negative impact of the extract of this plant was also detected on development of S. litura. The overall development period decreased under the influence of plant extract. Significant inhibitory effects of ethyl acetate and hexane extracts of M. oleifera were also recorded on adult emergence with more profound effects at higher concentrations. Most of the larvae feeding on diet supplemented with extracts of M. oleifera showed incomplete molting and developed into larval pupal intermediates.
