Abstract
Bitter gourd (Mormodica charantia, Cucurbitaceae) isone of the popular vegetable crops in the tropical andsub-tropical regions of the world and grown extensivelyin India which accounts for about 31% of globalproduction. The demand of this vegetable is constantlyincreasing owing to its better nutritional and medicinalvalue as the fresh fruits are excellent source of folates,vitamin-C, flavonoids and high dietary fiber. Mostimportantly, it contains an insulin-like polypeptide thathas been suggested as an insulin replacement in diabeticpatients and therefore, always enjoys a premium pricein the market which ultimately makes it a highlyremunerative crop
