Abstract

Evaluations were made of four antibiotics,viz., ampicillin, griseofulvin, aureofungin and mycostatin, againstAlternaria tenuis, Chaetomium globosum, Curvularia lunata, Cylindrocarpon tonkinense, Fusarium oxysporum andHelminthosporium spiciferum causing postharvest fruit rots of papaya (Carica papaya L.). A fruit dip treatment in 1000 ppm of aureofungin proved to be the most effective in controlling rots due to the above organisms, with mycostatin (1000 ppm) second best.
