Abstract

15629 Background: The prognosis for patients with cancers of the upper gastrointestinal tract remains poor and better treatment is urgently needed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of carboplatin, docetaxel and capecitabine as the treatment in patients with inoperable (locally advanced) or metastatic adeno- and squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus or stomach. Methods: The retrospective analysis included patients referred to the Finsen Center from February 2002 to August 2006. Eligibility criteria included the following: histopathologically documented carcinoma of the oesophagus, esophagogastric junction (EG) or stomach; no previous chemotherapy for upper GI cancer (except for concomitant chemo-radiotherapy); evaluable disease as evaluated according to RECIST criteria. The treatment (CTX) consisted of carboplatin AUC 5 i.v., docetaxel 75 mg/m2 i.v. and capecitabine 1000 mg/m2 twice daily for 14 days on a 4-week cycle.
