Abstract

Background: Warme Ghuddae Mazi Sulb , the Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH), is a very common and irritating problem of males. It produces a group of symptoms like frequency, urgency, nocturia, hesitancy, straining and retention etc; (Prostatism). Besides the conventional therapy for the conservative treatment of BPH phytotherapy or Polyherbal therapy has become one of the most popular treatment modalities now a day. Banadiqul Buzoor (BB) is one of the polyherbal Unani Medicine which is very effectively used by Unani physicians in the treatment of BPH like symptoms. Methodology: The study was conducted at NIUM Hospital Bangalore on 25 cases of Warme Ghuddae Mazi Sulb (BPH). Diagnosis was made on the basis of Clinical examination and Ultrasosnography. Six tablets of BB (1 tablet =1 g) was given to the patients in three divided doses for two months. Patients were assessed before and after the treatment with International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Bothersome Index (BI) and Uroflowmetry. Results: The mean age was 61.78±9.3 years. The mean IPSS score before and after treatment was 14.30±3.92 and 12.04±1.19 respectively. Similarly the mean for BI score before and after treatment was 01.96±4.24 and 1.26±0.81 respectively. There was a significant (p=0.063) increase in urinary flow rate on uroflowmetry. Conclusion: The polyherbal Unani formulation Banadiqul Bazoor improves the clinical symptoms of BPH thus improving their quality of life.
