Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of topiramate in the treatment of child with tourette syndrome. Methods Eighty-four children with tourette syndrome from January 2013 to July 2014 were selected, and randomly divided them into control group and observation group with 42 cases in each group. The control group received haloperidol treatment, the observation group received topiramate treatment.Yale Tic Severity Rating Scale (YGTSS) was used as the evaluation basis, evaluated and compared the clinical efficacy and adverse reactions at the 4th, 8th, 12th, 24th and 48th weekend. Results After treatment, the therapy effectiveness and adverse reaction rates of the observation group were 85.71% and 19.05%, which were significantly better than those of the control group(64.29%, 40.48%), and the difference was significant (P<0.05). After treatment, YGTSS scores were significantly lower than those before treatment, decreasement in the observation group was significantly higher than the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Compared with haloperidol, topiramate treatment has significant effects on children with tourette syndrome, with less side effects, so it is a safe and efficient treatment.
