Abstract

(Creno) balneotherapy is the treatment modality that uses thermomineral water. Well codified in France and some other European countries, there have been many publications about its efficacy and efficiency in knee osteoarthritis, and here we report the most rigorous ones. It appears that radon has no significant effect on knee osteoarthritis. Spa therapy as a complex treatment is improving pain and physical function in knee osteoarthritis. This improvement is clinically relevant for patients. Its effect on quality of life and drug consumption is not observed in all of the trials. This treatment seems to be well tolerated even if we have no data about the presence of serious and rare side-effects.
