Abstract

The superposition of a uniform magnetic field on a dc electric field generates local temperature variations in the bulk of an electrolyte: at low magnetic field strengths a decrease is observed in the direction of the magnetoelectric force, whereas at high field strength an increase is found. This paper contains an analysis of experimental results at low field strengths, based on the Boltzmann transport-equation and the principles of magneto-hydrodynamics.
