Abstract

With the lines λ = 4965, 4880, 4765, 4727, 4658, 4579 and 4545 Å of an argon ion laser, we have studied the exciting frequency dependence of the relative scattering cross section of the 213 cm -1 line of I 2 when the excitation lies in the absorption continuum associated with the 3Π + ← 1Σ + transition. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical prediction of Behringer and Mortensen.
