Abstract

The free carrier Faraday effect in single crystals of Tellurium has been investigated at frequencies ω ⪢ 1 τ , with the magnetic field applied along the three-fold axis of the crystal. From measurements of the Faraday rotation and Hall effect at 77°K on variously doped samples, we have determined one parameter of the valence band. The results are consistent with the twelve-ellipsoid model proposed for the interpretation of galvanomagnetic and thermoelectric effects. The effective masses of light and heavy electrons have been determined from the behavior of the free carrier Faraday effect and transport phenomena in intrinsic Tellurium.
