Abstract

Babero ( 1952) reported that X-irradiation of unembryonated Ascaridioz galli eggs resulted in a decrease in nutnbers becoming larvated as roentgen dosages increased. Shikhobalova, Vasilkova, Shekhtman and Vinogradova (1958) exposed eggs of Ascaris lgmbricoides, A. svgm and Ascaridia galli at various stages of development ranging from tygote to infective larvae. Using larvation as a criterion of effect, they reported that the eggs were most sensitive to irradiation at the blastula, morula and early gastrula stages. The present study was initiated to verify the report of Babero (loc. cit.), who irradiated unsegmented eggs, and was extended to study -the X-irradiation of lavated eggs, observing effects on survival, growth rate, naorphology, and sex of worms developing from such eggs. The words significant and signiScance in this report have a statistical connotation (t .05).
