Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of whole-course quality nursing on surgical instrument management in the disinfection supply center. Methods Totally 16 352 pieces of surgical instruments in the Disinfection Supply Center of the First People's Hospital of Neijiang between March 2014 and March 2017 were selected as the study subject by purposive sampling. Among them, the surgical instruments that merely underwent routine processing between March 2014 and November 2015 were taken as the control group, while the surgical instruments which received whole-course quality nursing between December 2015 and March 2017 were taken as the observation group. The processing of the two groups of surgical instruments and relevant departments' satisfaction with the processing quality of these surgical instruments were compared between the two groups. Results The satisfaction rate of relevant departments with the processing quality of these surgical instruments in the observation group was 99.24%, higher than that of the control group (90.91%) , the difference was statistically significant (χ2=9.790, P=0.002) . The disinfection and sterilization efficiency of the surgical instruments in the observation group was 99.97%, higher than that of the control group (97.98%) , the difference was statistically significant (χ2=150.669, P<0.001) . Conclusions The whole-course quality nursing services, when applied in surgical instrument management in the disinfection center, can help to improve the processing quality of surgical instruments efficiently and ensure smooth clinical diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, we suggest that it should be expanded and applied in clinical nursing. Key words: Disinfection; Sterilization; Surgical instrument; Quality nursing service
