Abstract

This researcher studied the use of wheat bran versus Metamucil ® in the diet of 22 matched pairs of postsurgical orthopaedic patients. This article presents results of the data that were collected over a period of5 months to answer the following questions: (I) Will the addition of bran in the diet of postsurgical orthopaedic patients cause an increase in spontaneous regular bowel movements? (2) Will the addition of bran in the diet of postsurgical orthopaedic patients cause a decreased need for Dulcolax® suppositories, Fleet® enemas, and Phillips *® Milk of Magnesia?
