Abstract

Summary The effects of different weedlng treatments on grain yield of sorghm, weed yield and cost of weedlng were studied. The yield or long-season Wad Fahal was lower than the earlg. Dwarf White Plllo. Nitrogen appllcatlon lncreased the graln yield of both varieties probably by lncreaslng the cmpetltlve abllity of sorghum on weed growth. It was found that two hand-weedlngs depressed the growth of most of the weeds except Striga, which was lncreased by frequent hand-weedines. Appllcatlon of 2,4-D checked the growth of broad-leaved weeds and encouraged the growth of grass weeds. Use of herblclde was the cheapest way to control weeds under Gezlra conditions.
