Abstract

This work has systematically investigated the effects of wall compliance on the noise attenuation performance of automotive air induction system components. Through three-dimensional acoustic analysis, one-dimensional acoustic analysis and experimental validation, the effects of wall compliance on typical noise attenuation devices in an air induction system have been demonstrated. The results show that the effects of wall compliance can be significant enough to warrant consideration and compensation for in the design of air induction system components to ensure the acoustic performance desired can be achieved.
