Abstract

The load capacity, friction force and coefficient of friction of a short journal bearing have been studied by considering the effects of surface roughness and viscosity variation along the film thickness. These characteristics increase with the increase of viscosity. The relative increase in load capacity due to roughness is more significant than the corresponding increase in friction for a fixed viscosity.
