Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP)on proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)expression in lung tissue of asthmatic mice with airway remodeling. Methods Thirty SPF grade female Balb/c mice were randomly divided into 3 groups: control group, asthma group, and VIP treatment group, with 10 for each group. The asthmatic mice model was prepared via ovalbumin induction and challenge test. For VIP treatment group, mice received i. p.of VIP 30min before atomization excitation. The levels of PCNA mRNA and protein in lung tissue were detected by real-time PCR and Western blot. Results The levels of PCNA mRNA and protein in asthma group were higher than both in the control group(P<0.05)and the VIP treatment group(P<0.05). Conclusion VIP may inhibit airway remodeling, which may be associated with reduced expression of PCNA. Key words: Vasoactive intestinal peptide; Asthma; Airway remodeling; Proliferating cell nuclear antigen
