Abstract
After classification of the various steady and unsteady phenomena that can disturb gas flow, information gathered by Gaz de France's Research Division on the effects of unsteady disturbances, such as those generated by pressure reducers, is reviewed. Experimental results are given for orifice plates, turbine, vortex and ultrasonic meters, showing that the errors induced can be of the same order as, or greater than, those created by steady disturbances. Methods for minimizing these effects and research that still needs to be done are discussed.
