Abstract

Abstract The mixed grain structure was found in H13 die steel due to improper production process parameters, and mixed grain structure has adverse effects on the performance of H13 die steel. The appearance of mixed grain structure is analysed. The heredity of mixed grain structure in H13 die steel was eliminated by using ultrafine and homogenization processes. The characteristics of the microstructure of H13 die steel were investigated, and mechanical properties were tested. The results indicated that the mixed grain structure transformed into fine equiaxed grains after the ultrafine and homogenization process and the average grain size of austenite is about 20.7 μm. After quenching and tempering treatment, the hardness of the sample reached 47.1 HRC, and the impact absorption energy was 10.8 J.
