Abstract

Effects of Two Intensities of Whole Body Vibration on Fall Related Risk Factors in Postmenopausal Women Loss of lean tissue mass, bone mineral density (BMD), and postural stability are common with aging. Each of these factors can contribute to an increased risk of falls or fracture. For women, these issues are particularly troubling since the incidence of fracture is approximately twice as high in women as compared to men. One nontraditional intervention suggested to address risks for falling has been the use of whole body vibration (WBV). However, the best training protocol or intensity for use with whole body vibration has not been established.
