Effects of Triamcinolone Injection-Reply

Abstract

In Reply. —According to Dr Ball, his surgical technique and protocol differed slightly from what we described in our protocol. He injected 300% more triamcinolone acetonide (12 mg) in a 300% greater volume (0.3 mL) than we used. We used a 30-gauge needle to inject the triamcinolone; he used a 25-gauge needle. We used a limbus-based flap; he used a fornix-based flap. Hyaluronate sodium was used in all of our cases to maintain the anterior chamber; he did not routinely use it. We do not consider these modifications in methodology (especially the drug dose) to be slight differences. For this reason, the two studies are related but, we suggest, not comparable. Although Dr Ball raises the question of selection bias in our cases, no eye that met the criteria for the study was excluded.
