Abstract

Objective To compare the effect of transanal tube drainage and terminal ileostomy on the prevention of anastomotic leakage following rectal cancer anterior resection. Methods A total of 102 patients with rectal cancer anterior resection were selected, while 45 cases who underwent terminal ileostomy were allocated to terminal ileostomy group, 57 cases who underwent transanal tube drainage were allocated to transanal tube drcinage. The anastomotic leakage of the two groups were compared. Results There were three cases of anastomotic leakage in terminal ileostomy group and 5 cases of anastomotic leakage in transnal tube group. There was no significant difference in anastomotic leakage between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions The transanal tube drainage has the same effect as terminal ileostomy on prevention of anastomotic leakage. Key words: Rectal cancer anterior resection; Anastomotic leakage; Transanal tube; Preventive terminal ileostomy
