Abstract

TiN film has been applied for biomaterials to improve the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. In order to apply TiN film coating for dental implant, pure Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloy were fabricated and then surface of manufactured alloy was coated with TiN film using arc ion plating. The electrochemical behaviors of TiN coated dental implant fixture were investigated using various electrochemical methods. The surface morphology of TiN coated fixture showed lower roughness than that of non coated fixture. TiN coated layer showed the columnar structure. The pitting potential and E hys of the TiN coated implant fixture is comparatively higher than that of non-coated implant fixture. The passivation current density and corrosion current density of TiN coated implant fixture was smaller than that of the non-coated implant fixture, indicating the good protective effect resulting from more compact and homogeneous TiO 2 layer and NH 4 + ion formation. The pit showed apparently in crest and root of non-coated fixture screw, but pit did not appear in crest and root of TiN coated fixture screw.
