Abstract

The effects of the time-integration method on the PISO (Pressure Implicit with Splitting of Operator) algorithm are investigated by a large-eddy simulation (LES). In order to investigate the suitability for the prediction of turbulence statistics, four variants are employed in the predictor step of the PISO algorithm. The temporal accuracy of these schemes is discussed for the laminar flow behind a circular cylinder and the Taylor problem. The performance of the PISO algorithm in turbulence simulations is compared with a particular fractional step method. The predicted results show that the PISO algorithm has desirable performance in application to LES.
