Abstract
A large eddy simulation technique with one equation model and a direct numerical simulation by third order upwind differencing are applied to the fully developed turbulent channel flow. It is shown that the suppressing effect of high order numerical diffusion on the near wall structure makes the accuracy of the flow prediction unacceptable, as the resolution by an available number of grid points is comparable with the spacing of streaks.
