Abstract

With the aim of examining the consequences of the domination of male ‘ideals of success’ in the business world, we conducted a study on the effects that the sexual division of labor has on self-employment creation in Spain. Our objective was to determine the extent to which the gender inequalities that characterize employment relations are reproduced in the self-employment sphere. As highlighted in the literature review, this study is supported, at the international level, by a growing number of studies on women entrepreneurs that have demonstrated the relevance of the gender variable in explaining business creation.
