Abstract

We compute the first massive level states of a string on an orbifold. Using a field theoretical approach we calculate the finite threshold corrections to the gauge coupling constants, due to these states, and the corresponding shift in the unification scale. We show that the latter is numerically negligible and therefore the inclusion of massive states does not appear to change essentially the phenomenological picture of a model
