Abstract

The effects of the addition of transition metals on the phase transformations in TiAl systems with different Al compositions between 1473 and 1073 K were experimentally investigated. The microstructure evolutions with different temperatures were examined by scanning electron microscopy, and the elemental compositions in different phases were analyzed by electron probe microanalysis. The movements of the three-phase tie triangle (β + α(α2)+ γ) in Ti-Al-M (M: V, Cr, Mn) ternary systems were investigated. The changes of β + α(α2) and α(α2)+ γ tie-lines at different temperatures were investigated to estimate the changes in the stability of α and α2 at different temperatures.
