Abstract

1. 1. Heart rate of Terrapene ornata was directly proportional to body temperature. 2. 2. At low body temperatures (5–11°C) mean heart rates during warming were significantly lower than during cooling. 3. 3. Heart rate may be inversely proportional to body weight, especially at temperatures above 10°C. 4. 4. The rate of cooling was greater than the rate of warming. 5. 5. The cooling rate of turtles weighing less than 300 g was directly propor-tional to body weight.
