Abstract

Effect of synchronization protocol using different forms of progesterone on reproductive organ weights and foetal dimension were evaluated in Yankasa ewes. Twenty post pubertal ewes were randomly assigned to four treatment groups (n=5) beside four rams were used for the study. Animals in group I serve as control (0.5 ml normal saline), in group II and III estrus was synchronized by daily intramuscular injection of 10 mg and 15 mg progesterone for 14 days, respectively. Intravaginal sponges containing 30 mg progesterone acetate was used in group IV (14 days). Rams were used to check heat of ewes starting 24 hours after progesterone withdrawal. Mean values of all morphometric characteristics of the genitalia and relative weights of reproductive organs did not show significant differences due to treatments. There was significant difference in foetal weight, crown rump length, total foetal length, vertebral column length and vertebral column and tail length (p<0.05).
