Abstract

Abstract The effects of a series of 2-arylamino-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidines on photosynthesis in spinach chloroplast were studied. The compounds proved to be uncouplers of photophosphorylation, while inhibition of electron transport occurred at higher concentrations. These effects were rather irreversible and the activity increased with lipophilicity. Inhibition of electron transport could not be reversed by trypsin treatmeni. Loss of membrane integrity might be the underlying mechanism of these effects.
