Abstract

56 female Ss completed an identical battery of three familiarizing, initial, and final tests of balance. Divided into a Control Group, a Strength Group, and a Balance Group, Ss experienced either strength training of the ankle dorsi and plantar flexors, practice on the balance tests, or no activity between the initial and final tests. Balance performance was best improved by balance practice, not strength training; however, strength of the musculature involved was significantly increased by a balance practice schedule.
