Abstract

Purpose: Gait retraining is a promising intervention to improve the mechanical loading of the knee in patients with medial osteoarthritis (OA). Specifically, it could reduce the peak knee adduction moment (pKAM) without increasing the peak knee flexion moment (pKFM), which are the kinetic changes most frequently sought in patients with medial knee OA. Various approaches have been proposed to help the patients achieve this dual kinetic change, but more work is needed to determine how to implement gait retraining at best.
