Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of spouse synchronous therapeutic communication on self-perceived burden (SPB) in patients with permanent colostomy. Methods A total of 56 patients with permanent colostomy of rectal cancer admitted to the hospital from December 2015 to June 2017 were selected and were randomly divided into the control group and the experimental group, 28 cases of each group.Patients in the control group were given routine nursing and general communication intervention for permanent colostomy.Patients in the experimental group received therapeutic communication intervention simultaneously with their spouses on the basis of those in the control group. Before and after the intervention, the self-perceived burden scale (SPBS) was used to evaluate the self-perceived burden of patients, and the SPB changes in the two groups were observed. Results Before intervention, there was no significant difference in SPBS scores and total scores between the two groups in all dimensions. After the intervention, SPBS scores of all dimensions and total scores of patients in the two groups decreased, but those in the experimental group decreased more significantly than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05). SPB degree of patients in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusions The simultaneous implementation of therapeutic communication intervention for patients with permanent colostomy and their spouses can help patients establish a social-family support system, improve the level of social support, effectively alleviate negative emotions of patients and their spouses, improve their coping ability, and thus reduce SPB. Key words: Spouse synchronization; Therapeutic communication; Permanent colostomy; Self-perceived burden (SPB); Self-perceived burden scale (SPBS)
