Abstract
The corrosion behaviour of Inconel 718 alloy and its aluminide coating was studied at 750 °C in air + NaCl, and air + NaCl + water vapour environments. The results indicate that the substrate shows poor corrosion resistance in both corrosive environments, with less protective NiO and Fe2O3 as main corrosion products. In contrast, the aluminide coating greatly improves the corrosion resistance of the substrate, with α-Al2O3 forming on the coating surface during corrosion. Besides, in air + NaCl + water vapour environment, the corrosion attack suffered by the aluminide coating is mitigated than that in air + NaCl environment.
