Abstract

Studies the effect of the solid lubricant M, obtained as the product from the interaction of caprolactam and cupric hydroxide, on the properties of lubricating greases in a 4ball friction tester with 12.7-mm diameter balls, using a oneminute test procedure. Finds that when the solid lubricant M is added to the TsIATIM-201, Litol-24, TsIATIM-221, or PressSolidol S grease in amounts of 5-20% by weight, the seizure load is increased by a factor of 1.3-2.7 and the weld load by a factor of 1.6-2.4. Indicates that the best susceptibility to the solid additive M was shown by the TsIATIM-221 grease, which has poorer antiwear properties in sliding friction, as it is formulated with a polysiloxane fluid.
