Abstract

Sodium methyl dithiocarbamate, methyl bromide, methyl bromide plus chloropicrin, dimethyl tetrahydrothiadiazine thione, dichloropropane-dichloropropene and ethylene dibromide killed soil nematodes including Pratylenchus and other non-cyst forming tylenchids in light sandy soil at the Royal Horticultural Society's Gardens, Wisley, Surrey, England. Improved yield and quality of carrots grown on land treated with methyl bromide or methyl bromide plus chloropicrin were attributed to the partial sterilisation effect of soil treatment and not to the elimination of nematodes.
