Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of social skills training on social function of hospitalized patients with institutional syndrome schizophrenia.Methods Totals of 71hospitalized patients with institutional syndrome schizophrenia in Putuo District Mental Hospital of Shanghai in August 2010 were selected and randomly divided into skills training group ( n =38 ) and control group ( n =33 ).The control group received conventional care and follow - up,while the skills training group received additional social skills training.Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and Scale of Social function in Psychosis Inpatients (SSPI)were used to assess the patients before and after 6 months after intervention.Results After six months,PANSS score of the skills training group was ( 100.13 ±21.09) which was lower than that of the control group( 111.70 ± 16.68 ),and the difference was statistically significant ( t =2.535,P < 0.05 ) ; SSPI score of the skills training group was (20.18 ±5.21) which was higher than that of the control group( 17.21±5.74),and the difference was statistically significant ( t =2.288,P < 0.05 ).Conclusions Social skills training can effectively ease syndrome of hospitalized patients with institutional syndrome schizophrenia,improve their social function.It is an effective method for patients' rehabilitation.
