Abstract

Birch distillate was tested as an additive in commercial wood-plastic composites by studying the mechanical properties and water absorption of the modified composites prepared by injection molding. The addition of wood distillate decreased the water absorption (24 h) of some samples and increased the processability of the composite granules. This preliminary test sets a basis for further studies, which include the addition of different amounts and different fractions of the distillates and tests with different addition methods.
