Abstract

The importance of shape upon the evolution of cosmological perturbations in the post-recombination Universe is demonstrated. Although most of the discussion concerns spheroids, in order to portray the results in terms of simple diagrams, the extension to fully triaxial shapes is given. The simple results for the evolution of spherical perturbations in an Ω = 1 Universe are generalized to triaxial perturbations, by means of expressions which are easy to use and yet are accurate. The consequences of these results are mainly for observational cosmology, and our interpretation of such data.
