Abstract

The effect of serotonin and angiotensin on the testicular and epididymal blood vessels in the rat was demonstrated by in vivo angiography, using thorium dioxide as contrast substance. Doses of 10 mg/kg and 25 mg/kg serotonin caused vasoconstriction and temporary total occlusion of the testicular blood flow, respectively. Angiotensin caused only vasoconstriction and not total occlusion of the circulation. This experiment shows that serotonin is able to induce severe ischaemia in the rat testis.
