Abstract

The effect of the presence of self-generated magnetic fields on the growth rate of the Raman backscattering instability in a homogeneous plasma is investigated. A general expression for the growth rate of Raman backscattering has been derived analytically. This expression shows that there is a reduction in the growth rate of the instability due to the existence of the self-generated magnetic fields.
